The
Right Reverend Douglas Theuner - Retired
Bishop
of New Hampshire
Why Bexley?
As a graduate of the College of Wooster, just 30 miles to the north of
Gambier, and a Postulant from the Diocese of Ohio, this was the logical
place to go. And at that at the time Bexley was the only seminary with
provision for married student housing—and I planned to marry
in
the spring before matriculation!
What was Bexley like?
It was an excellent experience. I came to appreciate academic study
fully for the first time. The faculty were welcoming and stimulating,
some of them exceptionally so. I remember especially Richard Salomon,
Roderic Pierce, Almus Thorp, Oscar Seitz, Robert Page, and Richard
Henshaw.
What would you say to someone considering
Bexley, if you only had a minute?
I'd stress the unique importance of interdenominational and interracial
context of the seminary.
What do you enjoy doing when
you’re not serving the Church?
Reading, traveling, skiing, and other outdoor and waterborn recreation.
Words to live by
Magnanimiter crucem sustine!
