The Reverend Canon Barbara Jean Price
Vicar, St Peter’s Church, Eggertsville, New York
Trainer, Church Development Institute

When did you begin to think about a vocation in the Church?
Barbara PriceMy first model for women in professional ministry was the Director of Religious Education at the Presbyterian Church, of which I was then a member. I was 16 years old and my heart’s desire was to work for the church as an educator. My life took a circuitous path to that final destination!

Why Bexley?
Although Bexley was nearest to my home and my job, I did consider three other Episcopal seminaries. I’m thankful that Bexley was most geographically proximate, because it’s the one I would have chosen in any case! I was drawn to the racial and denominational diversity on campus, and to the excellence and breadth of faculty and courses.

What was Bexley like?
When I first sat in a study carrel in the library, I wept. It was such a great privilege to finally have the opportunity to fulfill my heart’s desire. My only academic disappointment? Not having enough hours in the day to take all the courses and do all the studying I’d have liked.

What would you say to someone considering Bexley, if you only had a minute?
At Bexley, your educational and worship experience will be enriched by the Episcopal students and faculty, with whom you will worship, study, and pray every week. You’ll emerge from seminary prepared to participate in your local ministerium and meet newcomers to the Episcopal church with tolerance and understanding, at the same time being able to faithfully represent the Episcopal tradition.

I believe the blessing of the ecumenical mix will challenge you to articulate what you believe and why, and you will emerge the stronger for it. Take a chance on Bexley Hall. You won’t regret it.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not serving the Church?
Gardening, walking, needlework, baseball games, mystery novels, and family time.

Words to live by
For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. Plans for welfare, not for harm. To bring you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
