The  Reverend Bill Doubleday

A native of western Massachussetts, Fr. William Doubleday graduated from Amherst College with a B.A. in American History and a special emphasis on colonial Anglicanism.  He took his M.Div. at EDS in Cambridge, MA, graduating in 1978.  Following ordination to the priesthood, he served as chaplain at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City, and ministered to many of the first victims of AIDS.  In 1982 Fr. Doubleday joined the faculty of The General Theological Seminary, where he supervised seminarian field work and taught pastoral theology for 24 years.  At General, Professor Doubleday was also the Director of the Center for Christian Spirituality, and was several times elected deputy to General Convention.  In 2006, he moved to Bexley Hall as Associate Dean for Operations, where he continues to teach Pastoral Theology.  His interests continue to include: American political and religious history; issues in pastoral care; canon law; gay studies; and seminarian formation generally.  In his free time, he enjoys Broadway shows and reading.
